There is great variety in Andalucia. Whether hiking in the fascinating Tabernas deserts of Almeria or tramping the heights of the mountains above the Costa del Sol. Suitable for relaxed ramblers or ardent fellwalkers. There is something for all in this wonderful part of Andalucia. We also travel further afield to visit mountain ranges in Mallorca, the Picos de Europa and run regular hiking tours to the desert.

What are the best walking areas near Granada?
Close to Granada lie the Cumbres Verdes mountains. They are very accessible and useful for a day hike. In summer the Sierra Nevada ski area (40 mins) provides convenient access to the high 3000m+ mountains. The world famous Alpujarras are a popular hiking destination, a short 45 mins drive from the city. The unusual Sierra de Huetor are 20 mins north by car and the quiet Lecrin valley 30 min to the south.

Day Walking Tours in the Summer Sierra Nevada
Veleta and Cerro de los Machos
A superb varied circular walk visiting the dramatic bowl of the Corral del Veleta and ascending one of the lesser known peaks of Cerro de los Machos (3329m). Return journey crosses Paso de las Guías en route to Col de Carihuela and to Veleta (3394m), the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada
Mulhacen, highest peak, mainland Spain
The classic summer day traverse of Mulhacen (3482m), the highest mountain in mainland Spain. Starts from Capileira and uses the National Park Bus service for access to 2700m. We ascend the steep west flank and descend via the long south ridge. 6hr return trip. Spectacular views of the N faces!
Visit High Mountain Lakes
Escape the heat between June and Oct and walk to High Mountain Lakes near the ski area and in the upper Rio Lanjaron valley. Walks are designed to take in the best these lakes have to offer. Much of the walking is above 3000m on rough but well tracked paths. We allow plenty of opportunity to relax by the lakes

The Cumbres Verdes Mountains
The Cumbres Verdes are very close to the Granada ring road, so access is easy. In spite of this the walking is quiet and unspoilt. Lush green valleys contrast with arid badlands and this gives varied and interesting scenery and views. The walks take advantage of both horseshoe and linear rounds and are suitable for all ages and abilities
The Vereda de Estrella
The historical "Vereda de Estrella" path winds its way up a narrow valley. Classic views of the north faces of Alcazaba (3350m) and Mulhacen (3482m)! We have two hiking tours, the "Cortijos de Hornillo" (Moderate) and the full circuit of the "Vereda de Estrella" (Challenging). Best months are May, June, September, October and November
Sierra de Huetor
The Sierra de Huetor mountains are relatively unknown. The hills and forests offer the intrepid explorer a magnificent insight into the days when there were few paths into the mountainous areas. The area may only reach around 2000 metres in height but they have fascinating valley and mountain scenery worthy of mountains much higher and...more famous?
The Lecrin Valley
The Lecrin valley is a cluster of beautiful towns and villages south of Granada. It is bordered to the east by the mighty Sierra Nevada and to the south by the Sierra de Almijara. The area has a surprisingly great variety of walking and hiking, known only to small bands of local enthusiasts. Our series of day walks aim to cover the best the valley has to offer by both linear and circular routes.
