Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Geneva and transfer to Chamonix

This day is reserved for you to travel to Geneva where we shall pick you up and transfer you to Chamonix, where our guide will welcome you.

After settling into our cozy hotel, the Guide will help you pack and select the material to take during the trekking. Short walk through the city center.

Day 2 - Chamonix to Val Montjoie (France)

The day begins with a short bus ride to Les Houches, where we will take the cable car to Bellvue. In winter, this is one of the most visited parts of the Chamonix Valley, filled with ski and snowboard enthusiasts. Here is also the starting point for many who try to climb Mont Blanc (4810m) via the well-known, but objectively dangerous Gouter route, the normal access route to the highest point of the Western Europe.

We will start the trek with the climb to the Col du Tricot (2120m), which has a unique perspective over the Bionnassay Glacier. The view is really spectacular and provides a good forerunner to the landscapes that we will have at our feet over the next few days.

After a visit to the Chalets de Miage, we will have the last climb of the day to the Refuge du Truc at 1640 m. Then we start the descent to the town of Les Contamines, where we shall spend our first nights sleep in the mountains.

Day 3 - Val Montjoie to Valle des Glaciers (France)

The ascent to the Montjoie valley starts the second day of the Tour du Mont Blanc, passing through the beautiful 13th century baroque church of Notre Dame de La Gorge.

At this stage, the landscape is characterized by a dense pine forest. Shortly afterwards, our route becomes more rugged and we reach an open area surrounded by peaks and characterized by pastures. We pass by the Refuge de la Balme.

At the end of the day, we will go up to the mythical Col de Bonhomme, a place rich in legends and stories. This will be a significant climb, but it will be worth all the effort, since the views are superb. We reach the Refuge du Col de la Bonhomme 2433m.

It is here that we will spend the second night.

Day 4 - Valle de Glaciers to Val Veny (Italy)

At the beginning of our third day of trekking we go up to the highest point of the entire Tour du Mont Blanc, the Téte Nord des Fours (2756m). The views from this location are superb and some of the best of the entire route. The entire south westerly aspect of Mont Blanc massif is seen from here, arguably the most dramatic. From this situation it is possible to glimpse some of the mythical peaks of the Alps: Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and of course, the magnificent “dome” of Mont Blanc itself (4810m).

After an inspiring start to the day, we descend to the Glacier Valley, one of the most beautiful of the route. The descent is long, but it is well worth it as it is done passing between meadows and streams flowing down the mountain. This place is famous for cheese production.

It will be here that we will spend the night, at the Refuge des Mottets.

Day 5 - Refuge des Mottets to Courmayeur

This day is one of the most beautiful stages of the entire Tour du Mont Blanc. We start the day with a unique perspective over the Valley of the Glaciers, contemplated for the first time during the previous day.

The climb up to the Col de Seigne (2513m) is tough but the vistas keep reqarding us for our efforts. The col represents the border between France and Italy. From here we can see the Italian southern side of the range, much more abrupt and with its impressive peaks, ridges and glaciers.

In the afternoon we drop down along the Veny Valley to Lake Combal where the landscape is overwhelming, surrounded by the most abrupt peaks of the massif. This lake was formed by a natural dam on the moraine of the Miage glacier, one of the largest on the route.

We continue walking along the valley through dense forest until we reach the bus pick up place at the Chalets du Miage that will take us Courmayeur. Back to “civilization”, we will be able to have access to some “luxuries”, do some shopping and contemplate the calm of this small mountain “town”.

Day 6 - Courmayeur to Val de Champex (Switzerland)

During this days trek we shall always have the dazzling Italian slopes of Mont Blanc to our side.

We start the day from La Vachey, a quiet place with vast meadows and panoramic views over the Grandes Jorasses, a mythical mountain for climbers from all over the world. We follow a trail to the modern and pleasant Rifugio Elena, next to the curious glacier of Pré de Bar.

We continue our ascent to the Grand Coll Ferret, on the border that separates Italy from Switzerland, the Aosta Valley from the corner of Valais.

Then we descend down to the small village of Ferret, which gives its name to the valley where we pick up the bus transfer to the village of Champex, where we will spend the night.

Day 7 - Val de Champex to Val de Trient (Switzerland)

Today we trek the northernmost part of the massif in areas of pastures and valleys. We follow forest paths that little by little open up and become great mountain trails. The ascent is gradual passing by the Paln de L'Au refuge before rising up to 1900m. From here the path is always downhill, through a dense and very beautiful forest to our overnight stop in the pretty village of Trient.

Trient is a beautiful mountain village, with its picturesque houses and green slopes.

Day 8 - Val de Trient to Le Tour (Chamonix)

This last day of the route takes us to the Col de Balme, with its solitary and rather austere refuge. The views from this location are breathtaking, with the entire Chamonix valley at our feet and, above all, one of the most impressive views of the Mont Blanc massif.

This northern passage into Chamonix from Switzerland, will have been worth all the effort so far. The day ends with a descent to the town of Le Tour, the last point on our route and beginning of the Chamonix valley.

Day 9 - Transfer to Geneva. Flight home

Val de Trient to La Tour
Free day in Chamonix to visit the city and do some shopping. If return flights allow it, we will still take the cable car up to the mythical Aguille do Midi.

This became one of the highest cable cars in the world and it is a place that leaves no one indifferent. From here we have a unique perspective of several peaks of this massif, among them the Giant's Tooth, Mount Blanc del Tacul, Mount Maudi and, of course, Mount Blanc. These last three are one of the most used routes to climb to the highest point from Western Europe, via the Tres Cumes route.

Transfer to airport for return flights home.
