Lanjarón wants to become something more than the municipality of water. To its rich gastronomy, sports and nature, little streets where you can get lost with the hypnotic sound of water and the friendliness of its people, a great tourism project will be added that will allow the province of Granada to have its own 'Caminito del Rey' . This is the 'Caminito del Tajo Colorao' project, a complete plan that includes up to 23 different plans in the municipality that go through the reforestation of areas such as the Huerta de las Monjas and Tello, the rehabilitation of the Arab Castle, panoramic viewpoints, walkways and a zip line from the Tajo Colorao cliffs to the municipality.
In this way, the municipality of the Alpujarra could become the new aim for thousands of tourists looking for leisure alternatives related to sports and nature. There is no similar project throughout the province.
The project, framed within the Lanjarón Pueblo del Agua Tourism Sustainability Plan: Ecotourism in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, has been presented at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, by the mayor of the municipality, Eric Escobedo, the Councilor for Tourism, Antonia Romero, the territorial delegate for Tourism, Fernando Egea, and the technical director of ARP Prevention, José Manuel Moreno.
"It will be a path similar to that of the Caminito del Rey in Malaga that works very well, we firmly believe that it will work just as well in Lanjarón," explains Escobedo, who thanks the Junta de Andalucía for the investment of 2.5 million euros, through EU funds, which will allow them to carry out this ambitious plan that will become the crown jewel of the region.
In line, it highlights the great effort made by the municipality to make each point of the tourist plan almost to the millimeter. "It will be the greatest dynamic element of tourism in Lanjarón, and will consist of the use of a unique natural resource, the Tajo Colorao, a deep and vertical cut formed in the terrain whose majesty is imposing", he also explains that for its enhancement They will develop a series of infrastructures for active tourism and ecotourism.
In other words, the project contemplates a path that will go through the pit along the ridge in a dizzying journey, three panoramic viewpoints in fall from where you can enjoy the best views, in addition to favoring the observation of the flora and fauna of the area, or a great zip line that will allow the most intrepid to descend to the Arab Castle.
The mayor of Lanjarón, Eric Escobedo, indicates that a fully accessible flying path and a via ferrata will be created for the development of active tourism in nature. In this sense, it emphasizes that it is "one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly market niches. As a climax for the most intrepid, a zip line will be installed, which by length will be one of the four longest in Andalusia, and that will connect the mountain with the Arab Castle, to end one of the most unique experiences, back to the municipality".
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Antonia Romero, points out that the Tourism Sustainability Plan contemplates four lines of action that are the backbone of different projects, all of them focused on sustainable tourism. "The plan is made up of a total of 23 actions to be carried out between 2023 and 2025. It is undoubtedly the largest tourist investment for our municipality."
The technical director of ARP Prevention, José Manuel Moreno, adds that the objective of the project is to "put up a beacon of activity" in Lanjarón so that it is known throughout the world. "All the actions will be sustainable and, in general terms, it is considered to be one of the largest projects in Europe at an urban level."
Finally, the territorial delegate for Culture, Fernando Egea, highlighted "the extraordinary opportunity that Lanjarón will offer with all these actions of the Sustainability Plan". "Lanjarón has presented us with a unique project in the province of Granada, a comprehensive project to attract all kinds of tourist segments. The Caminito del Tajo Colorado is going to be a fantastic, wonderful place, at the foot of a Sierra Nevada Natural Park" .
