Sea to Summit (Mulhacen) Challenge in under 24 hours

Now, Nick Cranham is a pretty tough guy and is used to difficult and arduous challenges. But on 21st April 2018 he will attempt possibly his greatest challenge yet. A walk from the Mediterranean Sea at La Rábita northwards to Albuñol, over the Sierra de Contraviesa to Lobras and Juviles in La Alpujarra, before climbing up to the summit of Mulhacén, at 3482m the highest point in mainland Spain via Siete Lagunas.

Most of the route is on mountain and hill tracks with just a few sections of concrete road whilst crossing over the Sierra de Contraviesa.

The Challenge

Incredibly, it is a distance of 56km with 5103m ascent and 1641m descent to complete the route to the summit. He will start at midnight on the 20th April and hope to reach the summit in under 24 hours. Of course his day won't be ending there as he will still have a knee jarring descent of another 2000m back to Trevelez.

A small team of helpers from Spanish Highs will be providing encouragement and support during his epic walk from "Sea to Summit". We wish him the best of luck and let's all hope the weather stays calm and fair.

The Charity

And he is doing it all for a superb reason, Guide Dogs for the Blind. If you wish to support Nick and his charity, GUIDE DOGS then please

Future Sea to Summit Challenges

The breaking news is that Spanish Highs will be running these unique personal or charity "Sea to Summit" challenge events each year. Participants will be able to do their own 3 day challenge. We are operating this trek in May, June, September, October and November each year (the summer is far too hot at lower levels). Be in no doubt though. This is a serious trek. A tough personal or charity challenge and a certain mental resilience will be required.
